Gas Turbines

Cambustion's range of gaseous and particle analyzers offer fast response data (with gas measurements as fast as 1 kHz) for a multitude of applications in the gas turbine industry. Core applications include rapid traverse of burners for spatial combustion mapping, flame temperature calculations and fundamental fuels research. High frequency measurement of HC, NO, NO2, CO and CO2 allow for extremely high spatial resolution mapping of a combustion region using traverse hardware, or alternatively lower spatial resolution but very high traverse speeds, leading to shorter run times.

In addition, class leading particle size, mass and number measurement from a single instrument enables development of combustion processes for a wide range of different legislations and fuels. Long sampling lines are used in aviation emissions measurements - our DMS500 can rapidly measure the particle size distribution in real time to correct for the naturally size dependent PN and PM line losses, saving testing time and money compared with older scanning sizers.

The CERMS reference mass standard allows rapid traceable field calibration checks to be made of the Laser Induced Incandescence (LII) and Photoacoustic (PASS, or MSS) nvPM mass analysers used for emissions certification of aircraft gas turbine engines.

Contrails are a subject of much current research, given their role in atmospheric radiative forcing and climate change. Our AAC has been used in the study of lubrication oil droplets as contrail ice-forming particles.
