Software Engineer
Permanent, full time (35 hours / week), based in Cambridge U.K.
Salary:
£52k+ depending on skills and experience.
+Profit share (variable, but typically 10% of salary in recent years)
Overview: Our range of innovative and high grade laboratory instruments relies heavily on custom software for underlying instrument operation, data capture and data presentation / analysis.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll work with other engineers and scientists to develop and evolve software for both new and existing products.
You:
Web application development using React and JavaScript/Typescript
Object-orientated multi-threaded programming competence in C++ and/or C#
User interface design and development experience
Deliver clear code with consistent static typing, run-time tests, version control history and design documentation
Experience in real time systems: pre-emptive and cooperative multitasking, time multiplexing, message queues, coroutines, lock-based and lock-free synchronisation
Comfortable working in a fast-paced development environment, able to adapt and adjust structures to support the evolution of the product
Enjoy learning new skills and self-developing your understanding, in response to technical challenges
Good to haves:
Experience working on scientific instrumentation
Experience interfacing with hardware
Python
Using common communication and data protocols: COM Ports, UDP, TCP/IP, MQTT, WebSockets, REST/Webhook/RPC, JSON/JTD, Flatbuffers, GraphQL
National Instruments’ LabVIEW
Data analysis and manipulation skills
An appreciation of the wider hardware aspects of engineering e.g. electronics and mechanics
